Entry-level personal injury attorney job in Los Angeles

Thanks to the reader who submitted this...

DOES THIS DESCRIBE YOU?

Recently graduated law school and passed the bar?
Wondering how the heck you're supposed to pay off your loans?
Given up on winning the lottery of coveted "big-firm" $160,000 /year associate positions?
Competing for scarce/non-existent LA lawyer jobs that pay less than you were making as a non-lawyer?
Trolling around the net for those hard-to-find "no-benefit" contract projects that pay $30/hour if you're lucky?

While you're continuing to do all of that, this opening is aimed at those recent graduates who would like the opportunity to earn a healthy chunk of $$ and learn "how to fish" at the same time, by working with a reputable and experienced trial lawyer on real cases, and helping real people. Learn the skills involved in running, managing, litigating and most importantly trying (as in jury trial) a personal injury case so you can eventually be free of your $30/hour nightmare toiling for other lawyers, and ultimately work for your own clients (isn't that why you went to law school?).

This is a trial- and litigation-intensive law practice based in Los Angeles (handling cases throughout Southern California), with a unique kind of offer for the right candidate(s).

Please send resume and cover by e-mail (through Craig's), and make sure to include an e-mail address.

NOTE: Please understand that it may take several days / weeks before we can get back to you -- but we very much appreciate each of your responses, and we do go through all of them.

'Ninja attorney' wanted in Nevada

The banks don't want it with me. These lenders don't want it with me. Their attorneys don't want it with me.
I'll eat their food and leave dishes, because I am viscious like that.

$1,000 cash flat fee to brawl, and don't think having a Summary Judgement Order against you (which they probably got when your first attorney got an Order allowing em to withdraw once you figure out you weren't on a flat fee agreement and couldn't afford the billable hours, yet the lenders continued addressing the Proofs of Service to your old attorney, the one who was not longer attorney of record....its called a NRCP Rule 60(b) Relief From Judgment or Order Motion, and I do them in my sleep, people:
(b) Mistakes; Inadvertence; Excusable Neglect; Newly Discovered Evidence; Fraud, Etc. On motion and upon such terms as are just, the court may relieve a party or a party's legal representative from a final judgment, order, or proceeding for the following reasons: (1) mistake, inadvertence, surprise, or excusable neglect; (2) newly discovered evidence which by due diligence could not have been discovered in time to move for a new trial under Rule 59(b); (3) fraud (whether heretofore denominated intrinsic or extrinsic), misrepresentation or other misconduct of an adverse party; (4) the judgment is void; or, (5) the judgment has been satisfied, released, or discharged, or a prior judgment upon which it is based has been reversed or otherwise vacated, or it is no longer equitable that an injunction should have prospective application. The motion shall be made within a reasonable time, and for reasons (1), (2), and (3) not more than 6 months after the proceeding was taken or the date that written notice of entry of the judgment or order was served. A motion under this subdivision (b) does not affect the finality of a judgment or suspend its operation. This rule does not limit the power of a court to entertain an independent action to relieve a party from a judgment, order, or proceeding, or to set aside a judgment for fraud upon the court. Writs of coram nobis, coram vobis, audita querela, and bills of review and bills in the nature of a bill of review, are abolished, and the procedure for obtaining any relief from a judgment shall be by motion as prescribed in these rules or by an independent action.
[As amended; effective January 1, 2005.]

(c) Default Judgments: Defendant Not Personally Served. When a default judgment shall have been taken against any party who was not personally served with summons and complaint, either in the State of Nevada or in any other jurisdiction, and who has not entered a general appearance in the action, the court, after notice to the adverse party, upon motion made within 6 months after the date of service of written notice of entry of such judgment, may vacate such judgment and allow the party or the party's legal representatives to answer to the merits of the original action. When, however, a party has been personally served with summons and complaint, either in the State of Nevada or in any other jurisdiction, the party must make application to be relieved from a default, a judgment, an order, or other proceeding taken against the party, or for permission to file an answer, in accordance with the provisions of subdivision (b) of this rule.

Work-from-home legal research job

This was sent to us by a reader, who comments: "This NYC research position won't even pay for the research conducted online = SHIT JOB! This clown needs to be busted because in the ad he/she is looking to have law students apply (i.e., the only people who have free Westlaw and Lexis that he/she won't pay for). $25/hr to have law students use their tuition for his private law benefit (breaking the agreement law students make with Lexis and Westlaw)? The ads reeks of unwarranted arrogance. Besides, assclown can't even spell "judgment" correctly. What a shit job and scam."

Looking for someone for research purposes. SDNY and EDNY specifically. Going to need info regarding verdicts, sentences, and judgements. Also will need pertinent case history of specific judge. Willing to pay through PAYPAL, upfront deposit as long as we have written contract, which I expect you to draw up. Expecting 20-40 hours of research to be done. Very good pay for law student. The endpoint of the research is a Federal case in SDNY. Also will need research and summary letter for info on halfway house and home confinement as part of sentences. I want to specifically know if any judge in SDNY or EDNY has ordered/allowed home confinement as part of federal sentence since 2007.

Also to be required will be a minimum of 2 visits to Brooklyn MDC to visit inmate the research is in interest of, and report research findings both there and to myself. Someone residing in Brooklyn will be given priority solely based on ease of getting to the Brooklyn MDC. To provide comfort level, case details will be given to anyone passing the first level of screening if desired.

Additionally, research and a detailed summary letter, with instructions and guidelines for applying for the "SECOND CHANCE ACT OF 2007". Including but not limited to the report mentioned here:
(5) Reporting.-- Not later than 1 year after the date of the enactment of the Second Chance Act of 2007 (and every year thereafter), the Director of the Bureau of Prisons shall transmit to the Committee on the Judiciary of the Senate and the Committee on the Judiciary of the House of Representatives a report describing the Bureau's utilization of community corrections facilities. Each report under this paragraph shall set forth the number and percentage of Federal prisoners placed in community corrections facilities during the preceding year, the average length of such placements, trends in such utilization, the reasons some prisoners are not placed in community corrections facilities, and any other information that may be useful to the committees in determining if the Bureau is utilizing community corrections facilities in an effective manner.

To avoid the shear amount of spam I received when I attempted to post this opportunity last time, I need to be more clear in my requests

**You must have your own access to PACER, LEXIS, and possibly Westlaw. I will not be setting up accounts, or covering those expenses.
**Payment will be made via PAYPAL transfer.
**Do not respond without your resume, which I expect to have been updated within the last 12 months.
**The rate of pay is NON-NEGOTIABLE. Period. If you are a current para or practicing attorney, I am NOT altering the offer unless a visit to the person of question at Brooklyn MDC happens FIRST. And you "hear from the horses mouth" what is needed.
**Replies/Applications will only be viewed if the word RESEARCH, in capital letters, is the subject of the reply. This is to prevent spam.

***Timeframe is NOW. I want research started by Friday 11-Nov. If you do not have the ability to commit a minimum of 10 HOURS in the next week or so, please do not respond.

Location: Brooklyn
Compensation: $25/hour.
Telecommuting is ok.

New York City legal research job

This is the 3rd time posting this listing. To confirm, this is a research position, but I do have SPECIFIC requirements. Please do not respond if you do not meet them. No purpose in wasting anyone's time.

Looking for someone for research purposes. SDNY specifically. Going to need info regarding verdicts, sentences, and judgements. Also will need pertinent case history of specific judge. Willing to pay through PAYPAL, upfront deposit for 1st 10 hours, as long as we have written contract, which I expect you to draw up. Expecting 20 hours of research to be done.

Visits will be considered 4 hours billed, flat. With obviously 1 hour being face time, the other 3 allotted for your travel, waiting time, etc.

**You will be expected to draw up an agreement dictating our terms of research and pay.
**Replies/Applications will only be viewed if the word RESEARCH, in capital letters, is the subject of the reply. This is to prevent spam.

Volunteer attorney job in South Jersey

We are a law firm involved in a large, complex and exciting multi-million-dollar civil lawsuit in Pennsylvania. We are recruiting volunteer attorneys and third-year law students who wish to build their resumes and gain some valuable experience on a high-profile case. This case is unique -- the stakes are high -- and they will draw on your resourcefulness, legal acumen, and tenacity. You will be under the leadership of an experienced trial attorney. If you are looking for experience drafting pleadings and motions, conducting pre-trial discovery, going to court, investigating and researching, and brainstorming strategies with fellow lawyers, this is a fantastic opportunity. The parties involved in this case have been the subject of a number of books and motion pictures, and therefore confidentiality is required. If you are on your way out of law school, or a recent graduate, this will be an excellent (although unpaid) opportunity to get your feet wet.

You may work this job as a full-time or part-time position, or as an internship or externship. Mentioning that you worked on this case will be a definite resume-booster. Our offices are based on Route 73 in Marlton, NJ. You need not be a member of any Bar to participate in this case. Membership in the Pennsylvania Bar would, however, enable us to expand your role in the case.

Long Island legal work for recent law school grad

We are a small busy Central Nassau firm, which like most Small Central Nassau Firms is dealing with the full brunt of the economy. We have a few clients who have sent us collection cases, most of which are uncollectible, which we need to put in suit and pursue.

We are looking for a law school student, or a grad, who can take a look at these files, and under the supervision of an attorney -- draft summons and complaints, discovery responses, and motions for default. We need someone a minimum of ten hours a week, and will consider up to 35 hours a week. Pay is $10 -12 an hour.

Look I know this is no one's dream job. Hell it's not mine, but it is a resume line; you'll be doing real legal work; you won't have to tell people you don't have a job; it'll give you something to talk about on interviews; you'll be exposed to attorneys who if they like you can help you in your career, and it beats sitting home sending out resumes (You can do that from our office.)

Entry-level tax attorney job in Bay Area, California

Thanks to the reader who forwarded this job. It sounds like they want attorneys to work for free until you "make a mark on the firm"...

Small law firm with extremely busy practice seeks a new associate attorney who is willing to work hard to learn every aspect of the practice of law. Prior tax experience is not necessarily required, but some familiarity with tax law and/or tax preparation is a basic qualification.

Successful applicant will be assigned to a senior attorney with over 30 years experience in all aspects of tax law and will do everything that happens in a law office from legal research and writing to document organization to deliveries. Although many of the assigned projects will be for our tax cases, additional projects may also come from the family law and general practice areas handled by the firm. The practice of law can be tedious, boring and does not always require brilliance, just hard work. If you are too important to organize documents and assemble binders for an audit, don't apply. The successful applicant needs to have a willingness to perform all of the mundane tasks that need to be done in a law office, and always with perfection.

If you are ready, willing and anxious to learn how to solve client problems and if you love tax law, we welcome your application. If you think this job fits your vision for the future and you are willing to stay with it despite its mundane and sometimes boring nature, we will look forward to meeting you. Please send your resume and a cover letter explaining why this particular job suits you better than the other applicants. Please do not send a writing sample until you are asked to do so.

This is an internship job. Compensation: $3,875/month plus discretionary monthly bonuses once you make a mark on the firm.
