JOB DESCRIPTION:

DEPENDING ON ASSIGNMENT, DUTIES MAY INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO, THE FOLLOWING:
• REPRESENT FIRM CLIENTS IN THEIR LEGAL MATTERS INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE AREAS OF PRACTICES OF IMMIGRATION, CRIMINAL, CIVIL, FAMILY L, AND PROBATE LAW.
• RESEARCH, ANALYZE AND INTERPRET EXISTING LAWS AND ORDINANCES, COURT DECISIONS, PENDING LEGISLATION AND OTHER LEGAL AUTHORITIES; UTILIZING TRADITIONAL RESEARCH TOOLS AS WELL AS ON-LINE RESEARCH.
• PREPARE WRITTEN PLEADINGS AND MEMORANDA ON A VARIETY OF ISSUES AND PROCEEDINGS INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE AREAS OF PRACTICES OF IMMIGRATION, CRIMINAL, CIVIL, FAMILY L, AND PROBATE LAW.
• PERFORM OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED, INCLUDING CLERICAL DUTIES.

REQUIREMENTS:

• MUST HAVE GENERAL KNOWLEDGE OF THE PRINCIPLES, METHODS, MATERIALS AND PRACTICES OF LEGAL RESEARCH AND WRITING.
• MUST HAVE GENERAL KNOWLEDGE OF COURT RULES, POLICIES AND PROCEDURES.
• MUST HAVE THE ABILITY TO PRESENT STATEMENTS OF FACT AND LAW AND ARGUE CLEARLY AND LOGICALLY IN WRITTEN AND ORAL FORM.
• MUST HAVE THE ABILITY TO DEFINE ISSUES, PERFORM LEGAL RESEARCH, ANALYZE PROBLEMS, EVALUATE ALTERNATIVES AND MAKE APPROPRIATE RECOMMENDATIONS
• MUST HAVE THE ABILITY TO EFFECTIVELY REPRESENT THE FIRM IN CONTACTS WITH THE COURT, PUBLIC, ATTORNEYS, LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES AND OTHER GOVERNMENT JURISDICTIONS.
• MUST HAVE AT LEAST 2 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE IN THE LEGAL FIELD (PREFERABLY IN THE CRIMINAL/ IMMIGRATION FIELD)
• MUST HAVE MICROSOFT WORD, OUTLOOK, EXCEL AND ADOBE KNOWLEDGE
• MUST BE BILINGUAL (ENGLISH/SPANISH) - NO EXCEPTIONS

COMPENSATION:

THE POSITION IS AT $38,000 (A YEAR) TO START FOR 6 MONTHS. AFTER THE 6 MONTHS, THERE WILL BE A REVIEW OF YOUR SKILLS; IF THERE IS GROWTH AND EFFORT YOUR SALARY WILL GO UP TO $40,000.00(A YEAR) FOR ONE YEAR. AFTER THE ONE YEAR, THERE WILL BE ANOTHER REVIEW OF YOUR SKILLS; IF THERE IS GROWTH AND EFFORT YOUR SALARY WILL GO UP TO $42,000.00 (A YEAR).

Entry-level attorney apprentice job in South Florida

Small law firm has a part-time opening for one recently admitted attorney to work as an unpaid intern/apprentice. Firm consists of one experienced corporate/M&A/transactional lawyer. The firm handles transactional or business law matters, primarily related to corporate and commercial transactions, financial transactions. To a lesser extent, the firm also handles civil litigation, which would be the candidates' primary focus. There is no secretarial or support staff (yet). There is a remote possibility of receiving sporadic income from contingency fees as collected by the firm on litigation work; such income would be minimal and undependable at best. The firm does not offer benefits. Although this internship is a good opportunity to gain experience and build your resume, it should be viewed as a stepping stone rather than as an opportunity to grow into a permanent salaried position.
