Just-A-Start Corp: Since 1968, Just-A-Start Corporation (JAS) has been helping working families in Cambridge and surrounding communities to meet basic family and housing needs. JAS helps small property owners to maintain their rental housing; prevents family homelessness; assists renters to maintain affordable housing; offers education and workforce training opportunities; and develops affordable rental and ownership housing. Just-A-Start works with individuals, families and groups to address these needs and enable people to participate fully in the life of their community.
Mediation For Results: Mediation for Results (MFR), a program of Just-A-Start provides mediation, legal services, education/training and program development in the fields of housing and homelessness prevention, family stabilization, and advancing public policy solutions.
Overview: The candidate will provide both mediation and legal advisory services, both in and out of court, primarily to tenants, landlords and property managers; but also for a range of other dispute resolution cases. Specific to MFR’s housing and homelessness prevention programs, the candidate will be providing mediation, negotiation coaching, and pre-trial legal advice and assistance. S/he will also provide training and education services to a wide range of clients involved with MFR’s core program areas. The candidate will work closely with MFR’s five other full time staff to carry out these responsibilities.

Responsibilities
Provide mediation and dispute resolution
Advise parties regarding legal rights and responsibilities
Provide pre-trial legal assistance
Develop and deliver education and training programs
Work closely with MFR’s Director of Mediation Services to insure timely and quality service delivery
Assist with other MFR program responsibilities as needed
Provide accurate records and case notes
Fulfill administrative and contract compliance responsibilities

Qualifications
Minimum of 2 years of professional mediation experience;
Graduate of an accredited law school;
Currently admitted to Massachusetts Bar as a licensed attorney;
Experience practicing as an attorney, preferably in the housing field;
Professional experience as a trainer in the fields of conflict resolution or related fields;
Commitment to working as a team to end homelessness and to promote the work of Mediation For Results and Just-A-Start;
Familiarity with housing and homelessness prevention issues;
Excellent interpersonal, written, oral, typing and computer skills (including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint);
Demonstrated ability to collaborate well with others, both internally and externally;
Ability to promote MFR services when needed;
Sensitivity to the needs of diverse low-income populations;
Ability to anticipate and identify problems and to put forward solutions that are creative, innovative, and flexible;
Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and assign duties;
Fluency in Spanish and/or French, Creole or Portuguese preferred

Salary and Benefits
$43,000 - $50,000 with excellent benefits
