STAFF ATTORNEY
Anticipated start date: January 2011
ADVOCACY, EDUCATION AND RESEARCH AND ADVICE RELATING TO
SOCIAL SECURITY DISABILITY, ADA, SECTION 504 AND MENTAL HEALTH DISABILITY RIGHTS.
SOCIAL SECURITY AND/OR FEDERAL LITIGATION EXPERIENCE IS A PLUS.
Cover letter must state why applicant is motivated to advocate for mental/developmental disability.
May convert to full time. May combine with Education Manager Position to become near full time. We request two (2) year commitment.
Benefits: Medical insurance, commuter checks, holidays, vacation days, etc. only after 30 hours per week (except holidays).
Skills required include: Conducting hearings, litigation and , team work, flexibility, supervising cases, research, and advising (and managing if combined job) Education/Public Awareness Division and administrative matters.
Working knowledge of Social Security disability, ADA, Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Medi-Cal (Medicaid), Cal Mental Health Services Act, etc. is very helpful.
Over two years of Social Security disability hearings experience and/or litigation experiernce will be given preference.
Admission to Califoria bar, minimum 2 years non-profit legal program experience, social security disability, disability rights, and mental health law or equivalent.

• Experience and skill collaborating in a team setting with staff at all levels
• Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Database(s) and Excel (WordPerfect and legal formatting helpful, but not required)
Compensation: $45,000 - $55,000 base annual salary DOE -to be prorated
