STATE BAR OF TEXAS – JOB VACANCY NOTICE

POSITION TITLE: Program Attorney
DEPARTMENT: Texas Lawyers Care - Austin

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Assists and develops State Bar of Texas and Texas Access to Justice Commission initiatives designed to improve the quality and quantity of access to justice for low-income people in Texas.

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:
1. Provides staff support and serve as a liaison for various committees of the State Bar, Texas Access to Justice Commission and legal services related task forces.
2. Makes presentation, drafts reports and other documents for meetings relating to legal services to the poor.
3. Assists in the writing and review of the department’s e-newsletter.
4. Participates in planning, development, and implementation of TLC and Commission programs.
5. Provides assistance and support services to legal aid and pro bono programs.
6. Answers public inquiries about legal assistance available to low-income people and pro bono opportunities.
7. Assists in the maintenance of the statewide advocate website for legal aid and pro bono attorneys in Texas.
8. Performs other duties as assigned.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Must be a licensed attorney in the United States. Also, if not licensed to practice in Texas, must be within a year of accepting the position. Must demonstrate good writing, editing and proofreading skills. Must have excellent interpersonal skills as position entails intensive day-to-day communication and cooperation with Texas Lawyers Care staff, members of the legal services community and the public. A minimum of two years related work experience with some knowledge of legal services to the poor is preferred. Ability to speak Spanish desirable but not required. Travel, evening and weekend work required, as needed

STARTING SALARY RANGE: $39,854—$44,835 annually, plus excellent benefits
